Braving the Cold for Fresh Produce Innovation and Connections in Berlin

Fruit Logistica 2026 took place in Berlin from February 4 to 6. Despite Germany’s coldest winter in 15 years, with temperatures down to around -9°C and some flight disruptions, the event drew about 90,000 participants, including roughly 67,000 buyers and trade visitors from 151 countries.

Around 2,600 exhibitors from nearly 90 countries were present, covering the full fresh produce supply chain—from production to logistics.

The theme focused on growth and adaptation (“Let’s grow!”), addressing issues like climate challenges, supply chain changes, and market shifts.

Key elements included:

  • New Product Showcases: A central area featuring 11 selected innovations in fresh produce, machinery & technology, and logistics.
  • Stage program: Six specialist stages with around 200 speakers discussing sustainability, smart technologies, global trade, and more (with simultaneous translation into German, English, Spanish, French, and Italian).
  • Trend Report 2026: Highlighted AI and automation as key drivers, with applications in production, quality control, logistics optimization, and forecasting.
  • European Statistics Handbook 2026: Analyzed the European sector, noting pressures from weather extremes and market changes but also strong adaptability and stable supply.
  • Fruit Logistica Innovation Award (FLIA): Its 20th edition, with the ceremony on Fruitful Friday (February 6), alongside events like the mascot race and the FRUTIC Science Symposium.

Zones such as Startup World, Smart Agri Area, and Logistics Hub showcased advances in AgTech, sustainability, and related areas.

Meanwhile, in the UBQ Network powered by DeltaTrak booth at Fruit Logistica, the focus was on

  • How to better track your shipment in real-time: Using advanced IoT loggers and cloud platforms like the UBQ Network for live visibility into temperature, location, humidity, shock, and more.
  • Instant digital quotes for cargo & delay insurance: Quick, on-demand coverage options generated in seconds to protect shipments against delays or issues.
  • Predicting price and supply availability: Data-driven forecasting tools to anticipate market prices and product availability based on supply chain insights.
  • Learning about carbon emission reporting: Tools and resources for accurate, compliant tracking and reporting of carbon emissions across the supply chain.
  • Getting better shelf life prediction: Advanced analytics (like Freshness Index) that combine real-time data with models to estimate remaining shelf life and reduce waste.
